What volunteers actually do

• Run sessions at libraries, senior centers, and community centers
• Take a section of the talk, or start by helping and watching
• Answer questions afterwards, one to one
• Help find local host sites that would like a session

Nobody is thrown in at the deep end — most help at a session or two before teaching part of one.

Who can do this

• High school students. That is our minimum age.
• No finance experience needed. We give you the material and show you how it is taught, and most of it is what you already know from growing up with a phone in your hand.
• Patience and plain language matter far more than knowing about money.

What it asks of you

About an hour a week. A session runs 30 to 45 minutes and two volunteers go to each one, so most of the hour is the session and getting there.

No minimum or maximum commitment. No semester to sign up for, no quota, and no problem if you are busy for a few weeks.

Training is reading the material. We give you the slides and go through them with you. No course and no test — you read it, watch a session, then take part of one when you feel ready.

Some host sites ask visiting volunteers for a form, a code of conduct, or a background check; we walk you through it. There is also a liability form to sign before you present, which we send after you sign up.

Starting a chapter where you live

No chapter in your town? Start one — that is how most of these began. A chapter lead finds host sites, books sessions, and builds a small team. More work than joining an existing chapter, and you will not do it alone. Say so on the form.
